DIY Mothers Day Gift Box Repost
DIY Mothers Day Gift Box Repost
"Many things are good, many are important, but only a few are essential." These wise words from Elder D. Todd Christofferson have been a great source of peace to me lately. Adding boy number four to our family has been nothing but pure joy, but Ive also had to put several things aside. Good things (like blogging) have moved down on my priority list. Not to say it will be that way forever, but for now thats how Im keeping up with the essentials.

In the mean time, I do have plenty of posts I can pull out of my archives to share with you, and hopefully something new every once in a while.
Mothers Day is May 10 this year, and with April drawing to a close next week, this is the perfect time to get going on all those Mothers Day gifts.

These boxes are just the right size to hold a nice gift card, jewelry, or any other small gift you may have in mind for your mom this year.
Make your box, add some cute ribbon, a flower, and a name to it. Then put your gift in and fill it with some fun shredded paper. Then get ready for the little surprise at the bottom of the box.

I like to add a little message. This time I added a definition of mother that I found last year, and loved. So not only will your mom get a great gift in a darling box, but shell have a little extra bonus in the bottom of the box. If you attach the quote with just a bit of tape it will come right off and she can keep it somewhere shell see it. I love adding small, unexpected touches.

DIY Pretty Little Gift Ideas For Teachers Friends and Family
DIY Pretty Little Gift Ideas For Teachers Friends and Family
I have a few more "box challenge" ideas for you today. These cute little gift ideas are from my blogging friend, Melissa Newell of My Party Passion.

Here Melissa used my white Breeve Gable Box and embellished it with scrapbook paper, twine and a fun cut out. Fill this little cutie with wrapped candies and gift cards, a perfect gift for your favorite teacher during teacher appreciation week or anytime during the school year!

Using another plain white Breeve Gable Box, Melissa created the perfect treat for a crafty friend. The box is decorated with scrapbook paper, ribbon and a cute tag. Inside some crafting embellishments like brads, buttons, washi tape, decorative clothes pins and a votive.

Last but not least using a plain Kraft Petal Box, a sweet birthday surprise for an adult friend. Not only did Melissa decorate the outside of the box with scrapbook paper, but also inside flaps. Fill the box with wrapped candies, a decorative magnet, a mini bottle of alcohol and a shot glass. This would make a fun bachelorette gift too!
What little goodies do you think would be fun gifts to go inside my Mini favor boxes?
DFTBA,
PS

DIY Mothers Day Gift Box
DIY Mothers Day Gift Box
I shared this DIY gift box for Mothers Day last year, and I loved it so much, that I thought it was worth sharing again. I really do like the colors I used last year, but I cant wait to try another one this year in a different color scheme.

If anyone deserves a dolled-up box, its your mom.

Dollar Store Gift Wrapping
Dollar Store Gift Wrapping
In my beautiful valley, were a bit limited when it comes to shopping choices. A Walmart came to town a few years back, and when that came so did Dollar Tree. We do have two other grocery stores, a Walgreens, a Kings plus other locally owned businesses.

I love a good trip down the canyon to Target, but rarely go anymore. I have to say, Ive come to love the challenge of shopping local in a small valley. It forces me to think outside the box, or use whats available. Its almost like treasure hunting. It takes an extra bit of effort to find the cute things, (unlike Target where I could buy something on every isle) but theyre there if you take the time to look.
So, my four-year-old and I frequent the Dollar Tree. He loves the fact that his hard-earned dollar can buy ANYTHING in the store, and I like hunting out the hidden deals that can often be found.
Last time we were there, my treasure was this blue chevron on craft paper wrapping, (I also got a roll of the same craft paper wrapping with yellow stripes) and the golden flower. I thought the two of them together would make the perfect pair for an adorably wrapped gift. You cant beat seven feet of wrapping paper, and seven golden flowers for a grand total of $2! Ill be able to wrap multiple presents with the paper and flowers.

Now, a word or two about dollar store flowers. Youre getting a whole bouquet for $1! You really cant be too picky at that price. Ive never bought dollar store flowers to use in an arrangement, but look beyond using the flower as is. Think about pulling it off the branch, or even pulling the layers of petals apart. And, unless the center of the flower is hidden, youre probably going to want to cover it with something. The centers are deal-breakers for me. If they look terrible, the whole flower does. I just covered the plain green bump in the center of the golden flower with a sticker that came in a package Id bought at Walmart for a dollar or two. Makes all the difference in the world!
The ribbon I used came from Michaels, not Dollar Tree, but I have noticed cute rolls of grosgrain at the dollar store lately that would work just as well, if not better.
And speaking of wrapping up gifts, (for a birthday maybe) I need to give a BIG happy birthday to my sister, Tania (the adorable one in the middle, and BTW I need to take more sister photos, this one is from Thanksgiving break)! Shes a nurse, a beauty, a girl of faith, my babysitter, my fashion rescuer (if Im ever wearing anything cute or trendy- its belongs to her), and one of my dearest friends. I think the world of her, and hope she has a day as special as she is!
Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you found a little something worth your time.

DIY Neon Gift Bags
DIY Neon Gift Bags
I have a ton of muslin drawstring bags left over from my clothing line and I love to use them for gifts. They can be a little "blah" on their own so Ive been doing some embellishing - in NEON no less.

This is a simple and quick project with really fun results.

What youll need for the polka dot bags:
Muslin drawstring bags (any size is fine) - find them on Etsy or do a google search for a list of suppliers
Neon fabric paint
Circle sponge applicator thing (pictured below - super cheap at craft stores)

Steps:
1. Place a piece of cardboard in the bag so that the fabric paint doesnt seep through.
2. Dab your sponge in the fabric paint - make sure you dont overdo it on the paint. Its better to have too little paint on the sponge than too much. You can practice on paper to gauge the best amount.
3. Press your sponge onto the bag to make your dots. Reapply paint on your sponge every dot or two.
4. Let paint dry completely.
5. Place a piece of scrap fabric over your bag and press with a hot iron to set the paint.
I made a ton of these bags up so that I can grab one whenever I need one for a gift.

What youll need for the chevron bag:
Muslin drawstring bag
Neon fabric paint
Paint Brush
Freezer paper
Chevron template - available here
Exacto knife or small pointy scissors

The chevron bags are a bit more labor intensive than the polka dot bags but still dont take too much time. (It would save a ton of time if I could figure out a way to make a reusable template rather than cutting out new freezer paper for every bag.)
1. Print out the chevron template. Place it underneath the freezer paper and trace it.

2. Use an exacto knife (place a cutting mat or cardboard down to protect your surface) or use small pointy scissors to cut out two of the zig zags.

3. With the waxy side of the freezer paper down, iron it on to the bag. 4. Again, put cardboard inside the bag and use the paint brush to paint the fabric paint onto the design. Be careful not to use too much paint. You need just enough to cover the surface.

5. While the paint is still wet, carefully peel off the freezer paper. 6. Wait for it to completely dry and then heat press it with an iron (place a scrap piece of fabric on top of the bag to be safe).

Super easy. Not only do these make great gift bags, they can also be used for toys, crayons, party favors, etc. Endless possibilities here.

Muslin bags come in all sizes and quantities. You shouldnt have any problems finding them online but if you do, let me know and Ill help you out. Cheers!
